Peyronie’s disease is a medical condition pertaining to a hard lump or a plaque that forms on the lower of upper side of the male genitals. These lumps normally develop in the penis’ erectile tissue layers. The condition starts as a localized inflammation. When left untreated, it normally develops into a hardened scar. Aside from lump formation, several patients diagnosed with the disease may experience several other symptoms including pain, impotence and deformity of the penis during erection.
Peyronies surgery is an option for treating the condition. It is usually given to patients with severe cases of the illness. In order to undergo this type of surgery, the patient must meet several basic criteria. A patient is only considered to undergo surgery when the deformity caused by the disease is severe enough to interfere with the patient’s sexual function. Most of the time, specialists suggest that peyronies surgery should only be considered as a last option. In addition, this peyronies disease treatment must not be performed on a patient whose condition is unstable.
Surgery Options
Tissue Grafting
This peyronies surgery procedure refers to the removal of the plaque buildup that causes penile curvature. This is currently the most popular surgery treatment used to correct Peyronie’s disease. This procedure aims to remove the lump of plaque on the penis shaft in order to straighten the penis. After the removing the affected part, a graft material of some sort is replaced. Since there are various risks involved in this type of procedure, only patients with severe cases are advised to undergo tissue grafting.
Nesbit Plication
This medical procedure involves the placating or the pinching of tissue on one side of the penis shaft opposite to the plaque. This procedure exerts a bending force thus forcing the bended curved shaft to straighten or to return to its normal form. Since this procedure may reduce the length of the penis by about 1 to 2 inches, Nesbit Plication is only advisable for patients having ample penile length.
In addition to surgery, the disease can also be addressed by various peyronies cure options including the administration of various anti-oxidants or combined minerals and nutrients such as POTABA (potassium para animo benzoate), Vitamin E, Verapamil, Colchicine and collagenase.
