Regardless of whether you are male or female, your life will certainly have a drastic turn if somebody as young as you will have unwanted pregnancy or a sexually transmitted disease (STD). You will lose your youth to give way to the responsibilities and problems of an adult as well as spend a lot of resources to get out of the dire consequences. True, it’s hard to get out of our sexual habits, hard to resist the lure of having sex, but we all know of what we’re up against for the deadly habits that we maintain.

Not to scare you away but we have sound numbers for back up. Youth may give us the license to be carefree but not to be careless.

In a given year, 15.3 million Americans can contract an STD, some of these which have no cure and are a lifetime malady. Among this number, about 2 million to 4 million of the infected will come from the younger sector, teenagers. Roughly, this means that on a daily basis, there are around 8,000 teens who’ll be infected with a new STD. As a matter of fact, herpes, which is an STD prolific to the young, has skyrocketed to over 500 % in the last 20 years alone especially among White American teenagers. It is so prevalent a disease that one in five teens aging 12 and above tests positive for herpes type 2, which unfortunately has no cure. Along with this, almost 50 % of African-American teens also have genital herpes, which also doesn’t come with a known cure. Going to another prolific STD, nearly one out of ten teen girls already chlamydia while half of all those who are newly diagnosed with chlamydia are girls ranging from age15 to 19 years old.

In line with the number enumeration, thin about it this way – how long can orgasms last? Give or take, let’s say and average of 15 minutes. In the span of this 15 minutes, plus add up a little margin for appetizer, entrée, and dessert, you can be seriously infected with an STD that can hound you for 15 years, and cost you much and lose your chances of ever having a healthy sexual affair anymore.

Not a balanced equation huh?

So, how to get out of it? Well, the most dependable way to prevent pregnancy and STD infection is always not to have sexual intercourse or abstinence. I know this is one word that we might have a hard time acquainting with, being used to having it our way most of the time. But on second thoughts, no other way can give you a fool-proof assurance.

But if you really can’t keep those raging hormones at bay by choosing abstinence, just always be prepared and well informed. Maintaining a sexually active life is very active. Its not only the wine and dine and seduce and bed, what’s more expensive are the dire consequences that almost always come. To better protect yourself as well as your future, do use some form of birth control methods and even STD protection. Even just one act of sexual intercourse or just intimacy through mutual masturbation can lead you to an STD infection.

The magnitude of teen sex and how it wrecked the tender lives of teens in more ways than one, has been growing silently and steadily. In fact, according to Dr. Meg Meeker, one of the most reputable and respectable source on sexual issues, insists that the growing number of teens sexual behaviors is not merely a crisis but an epidemic. In fact, she has titled her book as “Epidemic: How Teen Sex is Killing Our Kids.” This is one indication that teens are slowly being assertive about sex and this has its own effects n the macro level. But beyond that, such risky behaviors can really ruin your life. Whether you are sexually active or not, protect yourself from STD’s, especially if you count among the teens. The teens are more prone to STD’s being more vulnerable, misinformed or uninformed and generally with a higher dose of libido and curiosity.
