Teenagers nowadays are extremely different from teenagers before. They are now more independent, more advanced, more agressive, stubborn and they hate old-fashioned ways. Pre-marital sex is rampant almost everywhere and nobody cares of what the outcome of their actions could lead to. This is the main reason why teaching sex education to students has become a challenge to educators. Is it possible to make these kids become interested with topics regarding their sexuality and std prevention? Difficult as it may seem but there is a way.
Some instructors stress that abstinence is the only way that individuals can protect themselves from acquiring sexually transmitted diseases and avoid unintended pregnancies. However, others say that even though individuals are sexually active, they can still avoid being infected by sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies by using the right contraceptive methods. Yet, how can educators make the students apply these techniques in their sex life if these lectures are so monotonous and routinary?
It is comforting to know that there are several ways to make teaching sex education effective and fun at the same time. Youngsters nowadays, love listening to lectures if there are visual aids. Visual aids help these kids picture out the information being relayed to them and can indeed catch their attention. Another way to make teens interested in sex education topics is to make them participate in activities which are related to the topics being discussed. By doing this, they can interact with their peers and they can really feel themselves being involved in the situations given to them.
Film showing also works pretty well with teenagers. Why not show them videos which contain information about the methods of std prevention, the types of sexually transmitted diseases, how these can be acquired, contraceptive methods and how their bodies work. This way, they will understand better the factors which revolve around a person’s sexuality and also become aware of the dangers of unsafe sex. As educators, if you apply these techniques and strategies mentioned earlier on how to make teaching sex education fun and effective then I am sure that you can always make the information that you are relaying to your students something worth remembering not just a passing memory.
