What is a sexually transmitted disease? Many of us heard about it and see it on advertisements and other forms of media but don’t really know much about it. Wikipedia defines a sexually transmitted disease as an illness that has a significant probability of transmission between humans or animals by means of sexual contact, including vaginal intercourse, oral sex and anal sex. Furthermore, it has also been stated that a sexually transmitted disease is also known as sexually transmitted infection (STI) or venereal disease (VD).
Here are more STD facts that could be very useful to you. STDs are spread in several ways. One of these is unprotected sex, which is why wearing a condom during sex is a must. There is also a probability that one may be infected with a sexually transmitted disease if one has multiple sex partners. If you are sexually active and have many sex partners, then now is the time to clean up your act. Having just one sex partner can reduce the risk of getting infected with STDs. Another way that one can acquire STDs is when they start sexual activity at a very young age.
Sexually transmitted diseases are sometimes hard to detect because even those people who are infected by it do not know that they have it. So it is better to prevent being infected with STDs than curing them because if not treated, some of these STDs can even cause death to those infected by it. Some viral STDs such as Hepatitis B and some types of HPV have vaccines that are available to prevent one from acquiring them. The most effective way to prevent sexual transmission of STDs is to avoid contact of body parts or fluids which can lead to transfer, not necessarily any sexual activity with an infected partner. It is also ideal that both partners should get tested for STDs before initiating sexual contact, or before resuming contact if a partner engaged in contact with someone else. Using condoms in sexual activity is also a way to protect oneself from getting infected. Always keep in mind these STD facts that you have come across now and do your best to apply it in yourself for this knowledge can bring forth benefits and help you and your partner enjoy a happy and healthy sexual lifestyle.
