Relationship quality affecting libido, is one of the most common issues that happens to most women. The decrease in libido in particular is a very common sexual issue among women. This condition is often caused by several physical and psychological factors.

Several physical factors that lead to a decline in the female sex drive may include vaginal dryness or having insufficient lubrication, hormonal imbalance, poor nutrition, pregnancy, obesity, menopause, childbirth and more.

Women who are taking certain medical prescriptions are prone to having low sexual drives. Several antidepressants including Paxil and Prozac are known to impair orgasms and decrease libido. This is mainly because antidepressants work by raising the production of serotonin in the blood, which in turn affects libido. Women who are taking antihistamines are also subject to have a decrease in libido. A majority of antihistamines interfere with the body’s nerve signals, resulting to vaginal dryness. Although vaginal dryness is not a major health problem, lack of lubrication simply makes sex uncomfortable for women.

As we all know, hormones play a very significant role in determining an individual’s sex drive. The male testosterone hormone in particular is known as a libido booster for both genders. Women who are reaching the menopausal stage experience a decrease in the production of testosterone in their system. When this happens, most women experience a drop in their libido.

Aside from all these physical factors, the decrease in female libido can also stem from mental and emotional stress. Anxiety, excessive work, family and various financial concerns may be some of the factors affecting women’s libido. Stress can take its toll on the person’s adrenal glands. This incidence can lead to an increase in the person’s cortisol levels, and eventually reducing the sex drive.

Although decreasing levels of libido is one of the most common sexual issues among women, it is also one of the easiest to treat. Just like all medical conditions, the first thing women should do is to trace back the root of the problem and then start looking for ways to address it.

Women should remember that stress reduction is a key factor to maintaining an overall good health and thus sexual health. Excessive amounts of stress can contribute to the development of various medical complications. In order to reduce stress, women can try several relaxing activities such as meditation, deep breathing exercises and other similar activities. Apart from reducing stress, women should also consider the type of nutrition they are getting from eating their choice of foods in order to maintain an overall good health.
