Menopause is the most feared stage in every woman’s life. Women are afraid of this stage because they experience several changes in their bodies which they cannot understand. Some of these changes include, change in behavior like mood swings and irritability, changes in the body like hot flashes, night perspiration and vaginal dryness. However, what women hate the most among all these changes is menopause weight gain.
Menopause weight gain can be very hard to deal with since it tends to show up around a woman’s belly. Several women get frustrated upon gaining these extra pounds since they have always been slim all their lives and now that they are in the menopausal stage, they suddenly appear bigger than their normal size. However, this sudden weight gain must not be totally blamed on menopause. Women must learn to admit that their level of activity is not quite the way that it used to be and that maybe they have been binge eating every now and then which might have caused their metabolism to slow down.
Here are a few ways to fight menopause weight gain and get back that waistline;
First, women must take a look at their carb intake. Since a pound is equal to 3500 calories, in order to lose a pound, taking in less calories and burning them with off with exercise is essential. Another effective way to fight menopause weight gain is to take the most routine days and write down everything that has been eaten. Women tend to eat the same things during the weeke and usually around the same time out of habit. However, during menopause certain adjustments must be made since women at this stage no longer need the same amount of calories same as before.
Now that you have your list of all foods (including cookies, junk food, drinks and treats) look at different brands when you do your groceries. If you bring a sandwich to work, take a look at different brands of bread and see if you can save 20 or 30 calories over two slices of bread. If you use mayo, could you switch it up to mustard which has very few calories? Do you put cheese on your sandwich? Change to different brand and check the label. It doesn’t have to be tasteless diet products, just different brands. Thirty calories here and there over the course of a day can add up.
Finding at least 250 calories per day that you can cut out without totally upsetting your routines will surely cause you to lose one pound in 2 weeks. Adding in a walk after work such as walking your dog can also help lose pounds quicker. Moreover, taking extra time at the grocery store at the start of this plan by looking at the labels ought to do the trick! You don’t have to resort to “diet/low fat brands” just read the labels. You can still have your cookies or candies; just try some with fewer calories. You may think 30 calories doesn’t add up to much but over the course of the day, including soda’s etc, you can save a significant amount of calories without feeling deprived.
Some people may make fun of this plan but it is really effective and can help one shed off those unwanted pounds. Never accept weight gain as a menopause symptom that can’t be dealt with. You can take charge of this, and win the battle, and feel great.
